My classical background grounded me in melody, harmony, and technique. Then, listening to (and playing along with) a wide range of styles taught me how to fit in and elevate the vibe, making a crowd engage more than a DJ or established band can on their own.
“Playalongs” are a lot of fun for me. Even without rehearsal, I’ve gotten good at understanding a song’s structure and intent, adding just what’s needed to give it that extra edge.

The Overworked Animals‘ song “You Problem (Sounds Like a)” doesn’t need a trombone — it’s complete as it is. Which presented an interesting challenge!
